The London Cancer Hub is an ambitious plan to create the world’s leading life-science and healthcare district specialising in cancer research and treatment. Haptic Architects and Nordic – Office of Architecture, in collaboration with Inner Circle Consulting, WSP and JLL have devised a Development Framework for the Sutton site to deliver around 280,000m2 of modern facilities in beautiful green space that makes the most of the campuses unique location within London. Drawing from their experience of designing healthcare and life-science campuses in Scandinavia, Haptic and Nordic have designed an open, equitable campus that provides attractive work and leisure space for researchers, clinicians and the community, whilst creating an outstanding healing environment for patients. The London Cancer Hub will involve a complete re-imagining of the existing Sutton site to create a vibrant community, with research buildings, hospital facilities, a school, restaurants, cafes, leisure space and hotel accommodation for visitors and patients. The development will be delivered across several phases, ensuring that the existing research and clinical uses are kept operational throughout. The guiding principles for the spatial vision are to create a flexible urban structure with a clear hierarchy of routes and public space. Permeability into and across the site will be improved to transform the site into a welcoming, open and accessible place.
