This is a centre for young children and their families, parents and parents-to-be providing social, education, health and coordination services throughout the neighbourhood. It is one of the first wave of Sure Start projects. The building has a cafe, creche and spaces for functions, seminars, training, clinics, therapy, play, quiet, baby massage, relaxation, water therapy and learning, health visitors, school nurses, specialist consultations, family rooms and offices. Through its design and integration of spaces this building is intended to support and encourage SureStart, which aims to transform opportunities for young children through better access to childcare, health, education and support for parents and families. The building is timber framed with a colour coated steel roof and brick, timber and render external wall finishes. The centre shares a campus and adjoins an existing nursery school for which it provides new shared entrance facilities. The Practice has also designed the extension and refurbishments to support the schools conversion to an Early Excellence Centre and allowing the buildings to provide complementary facilities serving a wide sector of the community.
