Stockton Wood Community Primary School is in Speke, Liverpool. The new school design has been developed through a series of working sessions with the existing schools Building Group Committee. This committee comprises a mix of governors, teachers, site managers, parent representatives, regeneration consultants for the Speke Garston area and the local education authority. Our emphasis upon their design brief expands the opportunities for outdoor interaction with indoor teaching spaces. Our design goal is to explore nurturing environments with efficient teaching plans that can readily be supported by various staff to create secure, fun, flexible learning experiences. Funding opportunities are constantly being sought. The development incorporates separately funded Space for Sport and Arts facility with an arts performance bias. Stockton Wood aim to make their new asset pivotal to the surrounding community and thereby strengthen their provision for wider age groups. We are presently commissioned to investigate design concepts for a new professional artist's work and exhibition studio to link with the schools performance hall. Liverpool City Council appointed HLP as lead consultants under a traditional procurement route following competitive tenders and interview. Sport England are auditing the construction whilst on site for future best practice records. The school was successfully tendered in 2003. The contract value is approximately £3 million. Work began in May 2003 and is eagerly awaited for completion in July 2004.
