Hall + Bednarczyk’s scheme was chosen as the winning design in Dwr Cymru Welsh Water’s two-stage competition for new facilities at one of their most visited sites. The 330m2 building houses facilities for Llandegfedd Sailing Club, DCWW’s outdoor-activities centre, and a variety of schools and organisations. A cedar sheathd boatshed incorporates a generous viewing terrace that spills out from the flexible main function room at first floor level. This simple but elegant space, conceived as a large loose-fit room equivalent to a village hall, enjoys commanding views of the reservoir. It is served by a kitchen and support rooms which allow it to cater for a myriad of uses. The ground floor accommodates changing rooms, showers & WCs, and a retail outlet. Storage for rescue boats & watersports equipment occupies the undercroft of the terrace.
