Sited in Greenbelt land, New Build
The Coach House , 29 Kedleston Road , Derby , DE22 1FL , United Kingdom
his replacement dwelling in the Cheshire Green Belt takes inspiration from the local farm buildings and barns. The nature of the site and its setting gave influence to a design that directly responds to its rural context. The design is based on traditional typologies with a simple rectangular form, gable roof and a purposeful aesthetic reminiscent of a barn. The proposed finishes also take inspiration from the rural vernacular with timber cladding and a natural slate roof. Modern detailing then elevates the dwelling to an innovative contemporary home. The slate roof and charred timber cladding have recessive qualities. By utilizing black materials the green landscape and trees are dominant in the visual hierarchy of the Green Belt. This compact timber framed build has extremely high levels of insulation and airtightness combined with MVHR. The house benefits from on-site energy generation and an allotment to provide the occupiers with a truly sustainable home. Planning approval was granted January 2016.
