Weir Grove House sits on a backwater of the Thames in Wargrave, Berkshire. Originally built at the end of the 60’s on the Thames flood plain, the gardens flood regularly. We raised the floor levels of the house to avoid future flooding and added a two storey side extension and single storey rear extension. The single storey rear extension spans the full 18m width of the house and is constructed from pre-fabricated load bearing pre-cast concrete panels. Large glazed openings sit between splayed and fluted reveals which have been honed to reveal red and black stone aggregates. The red colour not only compliments the house’s brickwork but also runs through the interiors where our designs for the kitchen, bathrooms, stairs and joinery give little nods to furniture from the late 60’s and early 70’s.
