About the practice

We cannot make buildings by ourselves… The process of design and construction can be complex and is inherently collaborative, strategic, technical and creative… at its best it should also be poetic. From start to finish Grainge Rider bring energy, commitment and imagination to projects and explore the needs and vision of our clients with an open and collaborative approach. We listen, respond and share ideas to deliver compelling projects within agreed constraints. We love working with individuals, teams and communities and are excited by projects at all scales. For us, it is about the people involved, the challenges and circumstances rather than a specific sector or building type and we measure success by the enjoyment of those involved. A diverse range of experience informs our approach to practice. We are inspired by working with students, experimenting with novel construction methods and physical, hands-on prototyping. Our research enhances established design methods - it can unlock complex practical problems and offers fresh insight into materials, design and building. Edward Grainge and Kate Rider founded Grainge Rider Architects in 2016. We are optimistic and dedicated to making a positive impact on clients, users, communities and the environment.
