Glazzard Architects Ltd , Graingers Porcelain Works , Unit 9, St Martins Quarter, Silver Street , Worcester , Worcestershire , WR1 2DA , United Kingdom
The dramatic topography of the site offered an opportunity to explore the contrast between the surrounding rolling landscape and a strong linear architectural form. Perched high on a hilltop, the house is carefully arranged to respond to its natural setting and maximise long views across the countryside. The master bedroom is positioned within a large cantilever above the main entrance. This elevated space opens onto a deep external terrace set within the canopy of mature oak trees, providing both privacy and a strong connection to the landscape. Glazed on three sides, the room captures early morning light while framing expansive views across the valley. The orientation of the house responds to the movement of the sun across the site. Mature oak trees along the southern boundary provide natural shading to the kitchen and dining spaces, allowing filtered daylight to illuminate the interiors throughout the day. To the west, a generous external terrace forms an outdoor living space, complete with a sunken hot tub and seating area. Positioned to overlook the valley, the terrace takes full advantage of the evening sun and the dramatic setting of the site.
