Alteration to existing property
Glazzard Architects Ltd , Graingers Porcelain Works , Unit 9, St Martins Quarter, Silver Street , Worcester , Worcestershire , WR1 2DA , United Kingdom
Amada UK, the British subsidiary of a global Japanese machine tool manufacturer, commissioned the refurbishment and extension of their existing headquarters building. Originally designed by Glazzard Architects in the mid-1980s, the building had remained largely unchanged since its construction. The project was driven by the need to align the building with the client’s updated corporate identity while significantly improving environmental performance and internal working conditions. The original architecture was characterised by an elaborate exposed structural steel frame, which formed a dominant visual element of the building. The revised corporate design language required a more controlled and refined interior environment, leading to complex alterations that enabled the structural framework to be fully concealed while maintaining the integrity of the existing structure. The refurbishment was undertaken in carefully managed phases to allow the building to remain operational throughout construction, ensuring business continuity while delivering a comprehensive upgrade.
