Beechwood Close is a contemporary replacement dwelling in Cheltenham, completed in 2025 following a 12-month construction programme. The house occupies a generous plot set within landscaped gardens, approached along a gently descending driveway that frames the building within its setting. The design is based on a clear and rational plan, organised to create a legible sequence of spaces suited to modern family living. A glulam structural grid forms the primary architectural framework of the house. Fully expressed internally, the structure establishes the rhythm of the plan, framing views and openings while giving the interior a strong sense of order, character and spatial depth. Externally, the building is clad in linear handmade brick, referencing the stone materials prevalent in the local context while introducing a subtle modernist character reminiscent of 1970s domestic architecture. The southern elevation is defined by a deep overhang and arcade that moderates solar gain while creating sheltered external space. Combined with triple-glazed windows and a mechanical ventilation system, these strategies contribute to a highly energy-efficient and comfortable home.
