Cambrian House , 12 Heol Penrallt , MACHYNLLETH , Powys , SY20 8AL , Wales
The development consists of a teaching space/classroom and storage areas for the Countryside Environment Leisure and Tourism course (C.E.L.T) at the University. The building provides spaces for teaching and demonstrating the practical and academic aspect of the course as well as providing essential storage and security for the wide range of equipment used by staff and students. The construction is of local post and beam using short sections available from the local sawmill. A framing concept was developed working on available lengths and timbers. Straw bale from the college Farm was used as infill and finished in timber larch & douglas cladding from the Raby sawmills. The roof of the building was used by the college to develop growing media for green roofs using recycled aggregate.
