The client has had a planning application for a roof extension rejected in 2005 and asked the practice to create a new vision for the family home, and one which could utilise the rear garden to maximum effect. Planning was received for a discrete living area extension with family kitchen, that solved previous internal circulation challenges, with fully openable rear elevation and creative roof lights. The interiors derived from computer modelling of the overlooked rear garden area, providing maximum sunlight for the client, used to a Mediterranean climate.
