The practice prepared a successful bid for approximately £12.5M of Millennium Commission funding. Following this, we were appointed to carry out the remainder of the project to completion. The park contains a series of sustainable earth-sheltered community buildings. These buildings provide flexible space for a number of uses without losing green space within the park. At an architectural level, these passive annual heat store buildings are amongst the most ecologically responsible in the country and have been designed to minimise the demand on natural resources. The masterplan for the park includes: • Natural amphitheatre (for 2000 people) • Ecology Centre / Park • Art Centre / Park • Adventure playgrounds • New swimming pool • A refurbished stadium • 5 mile route for play, sport, ecology, art and fun.
