Listed Building - Grade II*
Hoxton Hall is listed Grade II* and is a very rare surviving Victorian music hall building used as a Youth Arts Centre and for outside hires. In 2006 we prepared a conservation management plan for the building and in 2010 we prepared a master-plan for the phased development of the building. The project comprises development of community arts facilities and restoration of the historic music hall. A new extension will provide improved foyer space and residential accommodation. The project is funded through My Space Lottery funding, The Heritage Lottery Fund and private finance. Works at Phase 1 will include new toilets to meet Public Entertainment standards for the enlarged building, access works, including a new lift serving all levels, and a new entrance to make the building more accessible and welcoming, together with upgrading of the building services and the various education rooms in the 1910 extension. Works at Phase 2 will primarily involve the restoration of the historic music hall itself, including repairs to the building fabric and finishes and improvements to the means of escape to allow seating to be re-introduced on the upper levels. New theatre technical installations will be provided to the two performance spaces, designed to provide modern facilities, which are sympathetic to the historic fabric. A new ventilation system will also be installed, designed to exacting acoustic criteria. Works at Phase 3 will involve construction of a new extension on adjoining land to provide enlarged foyer facilities, an acoustically isolated recording studio, additional offices and lettable residential units, to contribute to the organisations income stream.
