Foster Lomas were commissioned to design a new house in Namibia, West Africa. The virgin site is situated overlooking the Atlantic Ocean just north of Swakopmund. FL developed a sensitive approach which takes advantage of the sloping site by creating a series of terraces which negotiate the site and define both the house and garden. This is reinforced through the use of thatched roofs which unite the building forms and follow the topography of the site, creating another landscape layer. The building utilises local materials, integrating modern technology with traditional techniques.
