Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
Forward Architecture, Unit D , Worsley Bridge Road , LONDON , SE26 5BN
Forward Architecture were appointed to reconfigure the internal arrangement and extend the rear of this property to provide additional consultation and meeting rooms, an X-Ray room as well as a large events room to the rear of No.10 Red Hill, Chislehurst, BR7. The project involved inventive re-design and the addition of numerous extensions, all of which were unique in design and character to adhere with the quirky nature of the building. The existing building was a single dwelling, the ground floor had been converted into a clinic and the first floor was being used as storage and staff room. The main challenge was designing a commercial use for a clinic which would have patients of all ages, out of a building which was originally intended to be used as a family dwelling. Internally, walls had to be taken out to allow for a layout which would be wheel chair accessible. The first floor was converted back into a self-contained flat which had a separate entrance from the front, and an external staircase allowing access to the rear garden. The application involved a lengthy planning process, for which we also had to produce a transport assessment and client questionnaires to find out how they were travelling to the clinic and if by car where they were parking. There were also over looking issues which we had to overcome to allow the flat to gain access to the rear garden. The project was a planning success and we produced working drawings for tender and over saw the project to completion.
