Alteration to existing property
Studio 34 , Harcombe Road , Stoke Newington , London , N16 0SA , United Kingdom
This Stoke Newington townhouse refurbishment combines a dramatic spatial transformation with a fabric-first approach to energy efficiency. Removing a first-floor room created a double-height kitchen and dining space, with a new mezzanine overlooking the garden. A pyramidal-roof extension, turquoise steel cladding and large rooflight bring colour and daylight deep into the house. High-performance insulation, underfloor and concealed wall heating work with an Air Source Heat Pump to eliminate reliance on gas. A larger dormer provides improved insulation and storage, while solar PV panels generate electricity. The garden studio follows the same highly insulated construction, creating a cohesive, comfortable and more sustainable home.
