FORM have designed an innovative ecologically friendly timber holiday home in Sussex on a very challenging site. This new low impact dwelling is replacing a remote look-out point, which was demolished as part of the programme, in a remote coastal location with no road access. The house is a simple extruded form with a raised seam metal roof, unfinished larch panels and a linear plan arrangement. The highly insulated house will be closed up with shutters when not in use. An air to water heat pump will supply virtually all the hot water demand for the building including the under floor heating system, with a log burning stove to provide additional space heating as required. Other eco-build features include the harvesting of rainwater, a composting toilet and an array of photovoltaic panels. As a result of utilising on-site renewable technologies, the house will meet its own energy requirements for most of the time it is occupied.
