Form Design Architecture was commissioned to update and improve the street façade and reception areas of this 60 bedroom south-west London hotel, to better reflect the contemporary boutique style of its guest rooms. The hotel had been created by joining together two Edwardian villas, with a number of subsequent incremental extensions. The design of the central infill building appeared visually at odds with the scale and materials of the original villas. To overcome this problem without costly wholescale rebuilding or recladding, FORM designed a double height screen to sit in front of the existing central façade, consisting of a steel frame with cedar louvres. This contemporary addition clearly marks the entrance to the hotel and also provides visual separation between the two stylistically similar but non-matching side wings.
