Floyd Slaski have successfully carried out numerous healthcare projects for Bart Health NHS Trust at Royal London Hospital, St Bartholomew’s and more recently at Whipps Cross Hospital & Newham University Hospital over a period of almost twenty years, some of which are listed below: New Stem Cell Laboratory and Cryogenic Storage Facility New Gene Therapy Unit New Cardiac Care Ward New High Dependency Surgical Ward New MRI Suite Sexual Health Clinic Ward Refurbishments Critical Care Unit & Winter Bed Provision Privacy and Dignity Works Gamma Camera & CT Scanner Patient Hostel Expansion of Breast Screening Clinic Relocation of Ultrasound Ward Dementia Friendly Environments Ambulatory Care - Whipps Cross & Newham University Hospitals Newham University Hospital - Orthopaedic Centre - Theatres Newham University Hospital - New Colposcopy Suite Newham University Hospital - Renal Unit Refurbishment Examples of Recent Projects Undertaken: Whipps Cross Hospital - Dementia Friendly Environments The work undertaken was to improve the existing hospital ward environment for patients, specifically those suffering from dementia. Whilst there was some physical alteration to ward layouts the majority of the changes were addressed through installation of new flooring, decorations, furniture and artwork. Whipps Cross Hospital - Breast Screening Clinic Throughout 2015 and 2016 Floyd Slaski was employed as architect and lead consultant at Whipps Cross Hospital to move the ultrasound department from its original location to space vacated when the A&E department moved to a new building. The left over space following this move was to be upgraded as part of the Trust’s scheme to expand breast screening services. The budget for the scheme was limited and part of the exercise involved looking at the most cost efficient way of upgrading old uninspiring spaces to a facility which patients having to cope with the stresses of breast cancer would find welcoming and comfortable. Finishes were an important aspect of this and various schemes were proposed and discussed with client, users and patient groups. Old pipework that could not be removed was covered over and the large ceilings were made less daunting with the introduction of new suspended ceilings. Better lighting and new artwork added to the feel good factor and a new purpose made reception desk and patient welcoming area gave the unit an immediate cohesion all the way through. The unit was opened by the local MP, Iain Duncan Smith who said “It is vitally important that we try and do all we can to increase early diagnosis of breast cancer. This new facility will certainly help do that and I very much welcome it to Whipps Cross.” Newham University Hospital: Major reconfiguration of the third floor of Newham University Hospital’s Gateway Centre to provide two state of the art orthopaedic theatres with laminar airflow technology. The phased programme of works included moving the Colposcopy Department to new refurbished premises in the main hospital building, creating new staff facilities, patient reception and waiting areas and clinical stores. New plant was installed on the roof and a new electrical supply was fed through the building whilst the two adjacent theatres and ancillary rooms remained in use throughout the works.
