Alteration to existing property, Listed Building - Grade II*, Within a Conservation Area
The practice were appointed as historic buildings architects and consultants to review the provision of new electrical and lighting services to the historic significant rooms of the interior of the Grade II* Guildhall in Sandwich, Kent for Sandwich Town Council. The building dates from 1579 and which includes one of the oldest court rooms still in use as a Coroner's court today together with associated function rooms which also form part of the Sandwich Guildhall Museum. The building has been subject to change in the 18th and 20th centuries and was extended in 1973. Our services included undertaking research and carrying out a visual survey to assess the significance of the historic rooms and preparing a feasibility brief for the scope of specialist services to be undertaken in conjunction with specialists consultants, conservators and contractors to bring these rooms up to a level of services provision to suit the functional and ceremonial uses in the 21st century. The feasibility study also included assessing the brief for the design of and adaptation of the rooms to accommodate flexible uses including provision of new joinery and furniture.
