New Private House – Quayside View A new speculative build for a Developer client on a stunning site situated above the river Torridge with panoramic views across to the harbour and down towards the estuary. The site is steeply sloping, and development was restricted to a low ridge height. The plot is extremely prominent corner plot which is elevated above the main road. This elevation meant that the design needed to address both sides of the corner plot to address the quayside as well as the adjacent houses. We developed a design to create a modern living space, with plenty of external terraces to maximise on the views in all directions. The house was designed as reverse level, with an interesting open plan living space, with full height aluminium glazed screen to two sides to maximise the views. The roof then oversails the first floor balcony to create some shelter and give the façade an interesting appeal. The repetition of the glulaminated posts across the façade provide a good sense of proportion to the frontage, with a contemporary palette of materials and colours to give the building a very modern appeal.
