New Private House – Woodland Mount The design for this new dwelling was developed for our client on a very difficult site. The site is small, steep and on the edge of a woodland with difficult access. The design was developed to maximise the possibilities of the site including the orientation and views, whilst creating an interesting and sensitive design. The split level design across 3 floors addressed the large change in level, whilst creating interesting living spaces which are open plan, but defined by steps, structure and other architectural features to create the perfect family home. The house is designed to be an oak frame property with areas of direct glazing, and other areas of timber cladding infill. The chunky frame gives a rural and traditional appeal, with the glazed infill making this a truly contemporary design. This application was won at planning appeal as the local authority initially refused the proposal. The Inspector sited the ‘ high quality design’ as a reason why the appeal was upheld.
