Alteration to existing property
FBA Design Ltd , 12 Hudson Apartments , Chadwell Lane , LONDON , N8 7RW , United Kingdom
Greater London House, originally called The Carreras Building is located in Camden and was built between 1926 and 1928 as a factory making Black Cat cigarettes. The front facade, facing Mornington Crescent tube station , was finely detailed with black cat reliefs and 'Egyptian' columns celebrating the recent discovery of Tutankamun's tomb. A 1960s conversion to offices removed all the facade decoration including the two 8' high black cats that stood guard at the main entrance. We undertook the complete restoration of the original facade and a thorough renovation of the internal office space. The project was awarded a Civic Trust Award and a Camden Design Award and was featured as Building of the Month in the RIBA Journal.
