Alteration to existing property, Sited in Greenbelt land
Our brief was to modify and extend this farmhouse which originally dated from the 1500s. There had been numerous extensions and modifications over time but our client wanted to rationalise the spaces, making a more cohesive layout with large spaces for family gatherings and adding an extra guest bedroom. Also important to the brief was the client's piano collection and they wanted to create a space where they could hold small concerts. In the old sections of the house, exposing the existing original timber frame and stone walls work well next to the crisps lines of the new extensions, aluminium frame large glazing and white painted exposed rafters which add height and a sense of openess to the new additions.
