We were appointed to restore and extend this Grade II listed weaver’s cottage in Littleborough which had had fallen into disuse and required complete renovation. The original property comprised a two storey building with living accommodation on the ground floor and a strip of windows on the first floor historically serving a workshop. The long strip of 12 windows would have maximised natural light to the looms. At some point in the building’s history, when the upper storey was divided into rooms, 6 of these windows were filled in. With the agreement and co-operation of the Conservation officer, our design for the restoration and complete internal reordering of the house included the opening up of the original run of ‘weavers’ windows restoring the original appearance of the building. A comprehensive restoration was undertaken on the building’s historic fabric ensuring that as well as creating a comfortable family home, the building would be conserved for many years to come. A further extension has now been planned and will form the second phase of the project.
