3rd Floor, Brodrick's Building , 43-51 Cookridge Street , LEEDS , LS2 3AW , United Kingdom

Completed in August 2011, the relocation of the School of Health Studies onto the main campus has been achieved by connecting a 1960s four storey building and extending it to provide bespoke and additional rooms, whilst creating an improved campus main entrance. The curved form is clad with random coloured GRC panels, each one purpose made to create a rainscreen skin which gives both a contemporary appearance whilst alluding to the stone of the adjacent buildings. Timber cladding is used to form a linking section between the refurbished and new buildings, to create a roof pavilion and to clad a single storey entrance facing into the campus.  This helps to clearly express each different element of the building as distinct forms, whilst creating a strong connection between them. The glazed ground floor circulation and social  space emphasises the dramatic form of the panelled building above and provides  visual interest for users and passers bye. Being naturally ventilated, the building meets a challenging sustainable brief, boasting high thermal mass, very low air tightness, combined with controlled solar gain and excellent daylighting to occupied rooms. Project value £6m.
