Mixed-use development located on Dale Street, in the heart of the Northern Quarter in Manchester city centre and in the Stevenson Square Conservation Area. This project provides its own unique challenge as it is one half of a city block that was demolished by fire. The other half of the block remains intact and is a fine example of Manchester's Victorian architecture. The design needed to respect and complement the architecture of the remaining part of the block. The response is a contemporary interpretation of the former facade that is sympathetic to the immediate surroundings. The central bay of the former building is a strong focal feature, faithful to its original design. Dale Street elevation has been designed in response to the common features shared by most of the grand warehouse buildings along the street with the inclusion of modern Corten textured fins, mimicking the historical rhythm of the existing facade, overlaying a contemporary glazed curtain walling system. The building has been extended to include a fifth floor which is set back from the frontage to minimise visibility from the street.
