Upper Richmond Road is situated in East Putney, London. The mixed-use development will provide residential units with a proportion being affordable housing, flexible office space, basement car parking spaces and cycle spaces. At the heart of the scheme is a central courtyard, from where all of the properties are accessed. The inclusion of a water feature brings further vitality to the space and the proposal sets a new precedent for future development in the area. The design has sought to reduce energy use through passive design; Exemplar standards of airtightness and insulation are combined with central plant, incorporated to provide efficient energy, with photovoltaic panels at roof level generating renewable energy. It is envisaged that block A will become a focal point along Upper Richmond Road, representing a visual marker on the urban skyline and signposting East Putney tube station at its base. Many apartments within the scheme will benefit from direct access to private outdoor space in the form of balconies and private roof terraces. Communal terraces are provided featuring dedicated play areas, planting beds with a mix of garden planting along side roof allotment areas to create an eclectic and lively mix within each of the gardens to give a working garden character. A climbing wall is proposed for the northern side of block C.
