Our proposed design for a 4* hotel references Ipswich's unique heritage, whilst providing a contemporary and functional space that connects the town centre, waterfront and railway station. The facade design references the metalwork construction and detailing that became synonymous with Ipswich's dockland industries. This has been combined with a contemporary materials palette to create a facade that subtly changes appearance as one approaches along the curvature of Princes Street. Floor to ceiling high glazing on the ground and mezzanine level creates light and transparent public spaces, enhancing the pedestrian experience along Princes Street. The top two floors have been set back and angled to an east-west orientation, designed to reference the scale of the buildings in the immediate area, whilst providing a "beacon" visible from key sight lines.
