Westside 3 is a 49 storey luxury condominium development for Desa ParkCity in Kuala Lumpur. The project contains 469 apartments arranged in 3 wings that are organised around a central sky garden planted with mature native trees adjacent to the lift lobby. The apartments range in size from single bedroom to three bedroom units. The development was designed by Glenn Jeffrey whilst an owner of Urban Research Lab. Dividing the tower into 3 separate wings (served by a single core) allowed the building to be orientated to capture the best vistas from the site and also create openings between the wings to naturally cross ventilate the apartments and fill the common areas with natural light through openings extending the full height of the tower. The light shafts also serve to ventilate the hot air out through the top of the building and draw cooler air in from the bottom of the tower that has been cooled by water features in the landscaped gardens. The facade has been defined by the activities within the apartments. Bedrooms have reduced areas of glazing to add privacy to these spaces - externally this has created a rhythmic pattern on the facade whilst the generous balcony spaces to the living areas clearly define the vertical elements of the facade. Plant areas are located at the roof level screened by a kinetic facade that is illuminated at night to create a shimmering beacon to announce the development to the wider city context.
