North Kesteven

Brownfield site, New Build, Within a Conservation Area
Located on an elevated site overlooking the City of Lincoln and its beautiful limestone cathedral, the dwelling is designed and orientated to take advantage of these spectacular views across the city. The house adopts the simple forms of the surrounding historic structures in the village and references the materials used in the construction of its buildings and boundary walls. Clipsham Medwell, a Lincolnshire limestone well known not only for its use on local buildings but also for its use since Roman and Medieval times in London, forms the external ground floor. The stone firmly 'roots' the house to the load-bearing sedimentary rocks below on which the house bears, creating a sense of solidity and permanence for the dwelling. Above, a lighter, warm-toned structure sits atop the limestone base.
