A boutique hotel capturing the spirit of Shoreditch Ace London is located on the original site of the Shoreditch Empire Theatre, a mecca for music and entertainment. The surrounding area has a rich architectural history composed of warehouse, retail, residential and industrial buildings. The exterior refurbishment and aesthetic character of the hotel has created a contemporary street frontage that is now in keeping with the existing urban fabric of the area. The Ace Hotel includes 258 guestrooms, a 1,800 square foot seventh floor event space, a destination restaurant and a 3,900 square foot lounge and reception area. Each of the guest rooms has a distinct identity and experience of place with individual crafted elements, records and curiosities. The colour palette to the walls of the rooms are modest, a low key canvas for simple bespoke elements such as the oak finished bed platforms and day beds with reverse-denim upholstery. The public communal areas of the ground floor lobby house a large sixteen seat meeting table and include a café, artist designed lobby bar, flower shop, retail units and a gallery area. The space acts as an interactive hub for hotel guests and the surrounding community. The restaurant is made up of an informal bar area with a series of leather banqueting booths and a high ceiling, Philippe Malouin pendants, horizontal mirrored panels, hexagonal parquet & tiled flooring and an open kitchen. The rich mixture of textures to the exterior, combining dark ‘engineering brick’ in various bonds alongside glazed and metal Crittal panels, creates a series of distinct identities across the span of the façade. Cast bronze, galvanised steel, waxed finishes and Crittal have been used in reference to local metalwork traditions and craftsmen. EPR Architects are working in collaboration with Universal Design Studio to develop the interior design concept for Atelier Ace.
