New Build, Within a Conservation Area

Practice

Emmett Russell Architects

Studio 6 , 1 St Andrews Road , Montpelier , Bristol , BS6 5EH , United Kingdom

The project is a new house on a site in the Kingsdown Conservation Area in Bristol. The site sits in a walled garden adjacent to a Victorian cottage and has views out across Central Bristol. The design has set out to provide a modern family house that is exemplary as a low energy dwelling whilst being sympathetic to its setting. Reducing energy use and waste was at the core of all design decisions throughout the project. The house achieves very high levels of insulation and air tightness and is ventilated using a heat recovery ventilation system. Hot water is provided through solar thermal panels.
