Elbourn Architects were appointed by The Marlborough Science Academy to design a new faculty building including 8 classrooms, and ICT suite and associated offices. Our chosen site improves an underused and run down area at the front of the school overlooking the entrance drive and "Turning Forms" a reinforced concrete sculpture by Barbara Hepworth. Commissioned for The Festival of Britain the sculpture which was donated to Hertfordshire County Council and lent to the newly opened school in 1953. The new building also contains a new Conference Suite and Media Centre to including a space suitable for lectures and as a board room and complete with all finishes and facilities for remote Zoom meetings or BBC student broadcasts. We have designed the building using traditional materials and high quality detailing to enhance and complement the original 1950's buildings and the Merlin Centre which was completed in 2019. Seacole is also sustainable, economic and efficient to run and maintain. The building is naturally vented, triple glazed and well insulated. The new English Faculty building opened in September 2023.
