New Build, Sited in Greenbelt land
Following a successful competition entry we are working with Knightsfield School. Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. The school is a small specialist middle and secondary school for deaf children which enjoys a delightful open site with good rural views in the Green Belt. Our project includes a multi-use hall, additional classrooms, changing areas and associated facilities that will allow the school to expand the range of sports and arts subjects taught to the pupils and also provide a safe space for recreation in all weathers. To minimise the impact on the Green Belt landscape our design includes a central double height hall with smaller spaces wrapped around it. There is also a covered outside space overlooking the school grounds and landscape beyond. The project is bespoke to the specific needs of the pupils and their carers many of whom have complex physical and emotional needs in addition to hearing difficulties. Our scheme is also designed to be robust enough for a school environment sustainable, and economic and efficient to run and maintain. The building will also be open to the community for use by local sports and arts groups as well as groups linked to the deaf community.
