Dove Cottage was a small 1920's cottage on a large site on the edge of Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire. The house overlooked green belt farm land. Our clients purchased the property intending to extend the existing building in three directions and re roof it. Although we achieved planning permission for this scheme the Tofts decided to reapply to demolish the existing building and build a new house on the site in a traditional style. Our design consists of a large double fronted house with substantial reception rooms that have good views of the open farm land beyond. Upstairs the bedrooms are open to the roof and benefit from high level dormers to maximise light into the centre of a deep plan. The scheme is in the spirit of the arts and craft movement and includes good quality joinery and brickwork details that are in keeping with the surrounding 1920's architecture.
