This scheme involves the upcycling of an existing 1960s house which is in a poor state of repair. The existing building is cold and prone to leaks, with a dysfunctional conservatory. The typical approach would be to demolish and rebuild, however we are pursuing a more sustainable approach of upcycling the building by wrapping it in insulation. This will be clad in stainless steel to reflect the colours of the landscape and sky, creating a shimmering, colourful envelope. The existing building has strong forms, and these are accentuated by creating large overhangs which also shade the glazing. Two roofs are replaced and the conservatory demolished to improve the composition.
