Split house replaces a dilapidated existing dwelling; the house has the same basic layout and views as the original, but is re-imagined as a contemporary rural home. The new family home balances modern design and local materiality to create a bright and spacious family house in the beautiful Berkshire green belt. We used brick, timber cladding and pale green detailing to do something. The two halves of the house are adjoined by a unique double height atrium, forming a mezzanine at first floor while framing the entrance and staircase.
