New Build
64- 68 Brighton Road , Worthing , West Sussex , BN11 2EN , United Kingdom
The aim of phase two was to replace all remaining unsatisfactory accommodation with a 2 storey building, and provide a central focus to the campus with a new double height refectory. The building includes general teaching classrooms, exam suites, employment zone dedicated to providing careers advice, an LLDD facility for students with learning difficulties, including cookery and art studio, new staff accommodation and a new landscaped courtyard. Phase two provided an opportunity for the integration with the existing adjoining 1980’s two storey brick building and phase 1. The concrete frame and exposed concrete soffit to all classrooms provides thermal mass which minimises temperature fluctuations throughout the day. The refectory and the east-west internal street were both a steel frame construction, to allow a column free space for the refectory. The façade treatment reflects materials used in phase 1 to the east with white rendered walls, and incorporates zinc panels in reference to a zinc clad single storey building located to the west within the campus.
