New Build
64- 68 Brighton Road , Worthing , West Sussex , BN11 2EN , United Kingdom
The three modern timber clad barns are arranged to respond to the sloping site topography, with extended canopies & glazed curtain walling opening onto a new village square. Materials were selected to integrate with the rural context & adjacent Ancient Woodland. The project includes a new village square. ECE felt the creation of a new community space was as important as the buildings themselves, even more so with the site location at the edge of the village. The replacement school and pre-school, to be funded by East Sussex County Council, is part of a wider development that will include new community facilities that replace the existing village hall and new homes. The project has involved ECE collaborating with East Sussex County Council, the Diocese of Chichester, Etchingham Parish Council, Etchingham Trust for Sports and Recreation, the existing School, the landowner and their appointed developer to create the mixed development on land known locally as the Lambing Field.
