Croydon
£100,000 to £249,999
East Architecture, landscape, urban design Ltd
Unit 3.3 , First Floor , Bayford Street Industrial Estate , LONDON , E8 3SE , United Kingdom
This £4.6m scheme commissioned by the London Borough of Croydon is an ambitious public realm and landscape project that aims to create a public realm that is welcoming, high quality and inclusive. The project provides a suite of place specific improvements within the overarching context of a new high quality public realm background with materials from the Croydon Public Realm Design Guide. The task is to turn a highly fractured place made up of various transport spaces and slivers of footway into a high quality coherent network of spaces that are a delight to be in and a destination in themselves. Emphasis has been placed on making a new ‘front door’ to Croydon, Specific project components include a new place of arrival, at the newly named ‘West Croydon Circus’ and a new interchange route linking station entrances to the High Street and Circus with cycling, seating and planting placed in front of a new planted and lit mesh fence designed to give a clear background to this edge of West Croydon.
