New Build
This new 4-bedroom highly sustainable house is set within the walled garden of the restored ground of the Cadlington House Estate, Horndean. The design celebrates the surrounding agricultural and domestic vernacular through the traditional pitched roof forms, connected by glazed links. The building is single-storey throughout to minimise its massing and visual impact. The T-shape design sits within the walled garden and the associated landscape creates a formal processional route that actively engages with the existing walled garden entry point. The central pitched roof area uses the established central garden axis and contains the main living space with strong vistas of the extensive garden and southern entrance. The western pitched area contains: the master-bedroom suite with the eastern pitch containing the support areas. The use of alloy-mix metal cladding and glazing are inspired by the adjacent agricultural buildings. The dwelling is proposed as a Passivhaus to maximise its low-energy potential. Discretely located PV solar cells and highly insulated walls are strategically utilised to ensure the house is low energy and low impact. The internal building environment will be managed using air filtration and heat reclamation.
