The project is a contemporary development of over 14,00 sq ft on a vacant site previously occupied by the Metropolitan Police. The scheme comprises the full refurbishment and reconfiguration of the former Victorian police station into 4 apartments and five new build high quality family homes on the previously vacant site. The key objectives lay in creating an accessible and sustainable development - achieving Level 4 for "Code for Sustainable Homes" and a reduction in carbon emission by at least 20% over Part L Building Regulations. We worked closely with Southwark planning authority and the local community, including pre-application meetings, follow-up level 3 advice as well as public consultation meetings to ensure that the key stakeholders were consulted and all relevant technical assessments prepared. Early dialogue with the consultees ensured that everyone had an opportunity to contribute to the evolution of the design and all viewpoints were accounted for in the decision making process. This holistic approach lead to the sensitive design solution that will revitalise a long-disused site and contribute positively to its neighborhood.
