In 2005 dRMM were approached by SEI Investments, a pioneering American wealth management company, to provide office space for their expanding European HQ. The brief called for a design that embodied the company’s ethos of a non-hierarchical, agile, team-based environment in a relatively tight space, incorporating a large amount of UK-centric contemporary art from the West Collection. The client required a fast track concept to completion period of six months. Each of the 3rd and 4th floor spaces of the Listed Time & Life Building on Bond Street was given its own identity. The expressive materiality chiefly consists of timber. The direct use of English raw ash plank screen walls on the 3rd floor contrasts with the processed nature of laser cut birch plywood lining 4th floor surfaces. Furniture was especially designed or sourced. Artworks were carefully positioned together with the client’s curator. A sense of comfort offset by the tension between artworks and their effects prevails under a reflective ceiling.
