This development involved rejuvenating two Victorian villas (currently tired grade B offices) and with an extension to create 16 luxury apartments in the heart of Cardiff's city centre. The two semi-detached white villas were built in the 1880s as family houses but have been used as offices for the past thirty years. The villas mark a key corner site, within the conservation area and required a sensitive approach because of their adjacency to the grade 1 listed Burgess building and the National Museum. The vision was to bring this villas back to their former residential use, keeping only a small element of offices on the ground floor and basement, providing new high quality flats in the new extension for private sale. The issue of scale of the extension was carefully considered through the use of 3D models, both physical and virtual, and the planners eventually backed of scheme because of the sensitivity and quality of the rear extension and the restoration of the original building.
