Our client wanted a contemporary family home that took advantage of the fantastic open views down the valley to the south. Taking the materiality of a stone barn with a metal roof as our inspiration, we worked with the client, to persuade the Vale of Glamorgan planning department that a contemporary solution was appropriate for this site and together with the Design Commission for Wales secured planning in this tricky countryside site. The house has been built using an off-site manufactured timber-frame clad in stone on the ground floor and patinated copper to the first, with a dark zinc roof. It has an EPC rating of A and is highly sustainable
