Listed Building - Grade II
This farm stead occupies a dramatic site at the west end of a narrow ridge, which forms part of steeply dipping geological strata which has produced the distinctive landscape which is further enhanced by Hadrian’s Wall which runs along a similar ridge to the north. Kevin Doonan is the project architect and prepared all the design work and drawings. The buildings include a bastle (scheduled ancient monument) dating from the late 16th century, a farmhouse (grade II listed building) which was added in the 18th century along with a byre attached to the farmhouse. A range of farm buildings to the west was developed throughout the 19th century. The site lies within the Northumberland National Park and is in sight of The Roman Wall, a World Heritage Site. The completed project includes a dwelling for the client, a holiday cottage, an office and a large garage/storage building. The dwelling has stunning views to the west. The bastle has been developed to provide a two storey structure in a contemporary design which forms a stunning centre piece to this refurbished complex.
