Formerly the offices of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board, this iconic Grade II* building is on Liverpool's famous waterfront. DIA assisted with a £6m programme of refurbishment works and improvements to the means of escape and access. External repairs addressed areas of severe erosion with new stone indents, re-pointing and stone cleaning. New leadwork was installed to protect architectural details. Original sash and casement windows were overhauled and upgraded with draught-proofing. Stained-glass windows lighting the central atrium were repaired and cleaned, the lantern re-opened and the interior of the dome repainted. Cracking to the elaborately patterned terrazzo floors in the public spaces and corridors was repaired and the floors re-polished.
