Listed Building - Grade I
Donald Insall Associates Ltd , Bridgegate House , 5 Bridge Place , CHESTER , Cheshire , CH1 1SA
New life has been found for the ruined stone structures of the hall and the monastery cottages forming Ince Manor. Hall and cottages are the surviving structures of the 13th/14th century monastic grange, run as a farm by the monks attatched to St Werburgh's Abbey, now Chester Cathedral. The cottages were occupied until the 1960's, but the Hall fell into agricultural use after a fire in 1895. We undertook a feasibility study supported by the Architectural Heritage Fund to determine how this scheduled monument and Grade 1 listed buildings could be repaired, re-roofed, partially rebuilt and made weathertight in a manner acceptable to English Heritage. Stone structures were repaired and lost roos, floors, doors and windows reinstated. The repaired buildings will now be brought into full use by the new owner.
